MS Teams
22 Sep, 2021
Rituparna Kaushik (2016HUZ8173) will be presenting his Pre-PhD synopsis on 22 September (Wednesday) at 2:00 pm. The title of his thesis is "Essays on innovation economics". All are cordially invited to attend his presentation online using this link
The essence of the thesis is to understand the impact of certain important internal and external factors on the firm-level innovation effort in India that are not yet theoretically and empirically explored in literature. This thesis consists of two empirical essays and one theoretical essay that investigate the questions related to the central theme of the thesis. Chapter one provides the context in which the thesis is situated. Chapter two is theoretical in nature and focuses on India's industry sector post 1990's liberalization era, covering some of the critical aspects of strategic interaction between firms involved in JV. Chapter three studies the relationship between firm-level persistence of innovation effort and the number of competitors in the firm's principal sales market. The paper tries to identify whether there is any persistence of innovation effort in India and how this relationship is affected by the competitive environment as well as the technology import of the industry. Chapter four tries to look at the innovation effort in India through the lenses of a particular type of STEM education of corporate board members obtained at a specific set of STEM education institutes and its implications for firm complexity. Chapter five offers a few policy recommendations and general conclusions based on the findings of all of the major chapters.
