Course Objectives

This course will familiarize students with the emerging discipline of STS (Science and Technology Studies) and introduce them to the sociology and social theories of Science & Technology.

Course Contents

Introduction to the discipline of Science and Technology Studies covering topics such as the technological determinism, social construction of technology (SCOT), actor-network
theory, laboratory studies, scientific controversies, the theory of paradigm shift, social construction of knowledge, feminist theories of science and technology, the idea of technoscience, risk society, ethics in engineering, and the role of experts and the public in evaluating and regulating the production of science and technology.
